The Walk for Health... Journey to a healthy lifestyle was created initially to support the Weight Management and Obesity Centers at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center. Because so many people we care for begin new journeys after being hospitalized, we decided not to limit this walk but to open it to our whole community. Whether you or your loved one has been cared for at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, the Walk for Health is an opportunity to celebrate your journey, the accomplishments and milestones that you have achieved as well as to raise funds to benefit Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center. Proceeds will benefit programs and services for the Bariatric, Cardiac, Joint Replacement and Stroke Departments. The mall provides a temperature controlled climate to allow everyone in the family to get involved and make a difference. The Third Annual Walk for Health will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Livingston Mall in Livingston, NJ.

Children between the ages of 4 and 8 are invited to bring their Teddy Bears or favorite stuffed animals to learn about medical equipment and procedures and become comfortable with a hospital visit. Together, children and their “patients” will visit a series of interactive play stations so that children will have a good time learning that they don’t have to fear a trip to the hospital. This program is sponsored by the John La Conti, MD Fund in support of the Child Life Program.
– Camps and summer schools may participate by registering for the morning session. Please note that time slots are given to camps/schools on a first to register, first served basis.
– Individual community members may participate by registering for the afternoon session.

Miracle Walk was created by a family in gratitude for the care their daughter received during a three-month stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. In the past 8 years, Miracle Walk has raised more than $2 million to purchase advanced medical equipment for the NICU.
Friends, family, and community members may sponsor a walker, make a donation, or walk any distance that is comfortable for them.
